Nigeria’s Super Falcons pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), clinching their 10th continental title in dramatic fashion.
In a pulsating encounter held at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, a near-capacity crowd of Moroccan supporters watched in disbelief as the Super Falcons clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to write another golden chapter in Nigerian football history.
First Half Dominance by Morocco
The match burst into life from the first whistle, with the Atlas Lionesses applying immediate pressure. Their early intensity paid off when Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring in the 12th minute, followed by a second from Sanaa Msouddy in the 24th minute, giving Morocco a commanding lead going into halftime.
Nigeria's Stunning Fightback
However, the second half belonged to the Nigerians.
Momentum shifted when Folashade Ijamilusi's goal-bound effort was blocked by a Moroccan defender’s hand, resulting in a penalty. Esther Okoronkwo coolly converted the spot-kick to reduce the deficit.
In the 71st minute, Ijamilusi found the net herself, bringing the Super Falcons level and silencing the home crowd. But the drama wasn’t over yet.
With just two minutes left on the clock, Jennifer Echegini, coming off the bench, fired in the winning goal in the 88th minute, sealing a historic victory.
