From Mud to Development: Burna Boy Begins Transformation Plan for His Village Ogbogolo as Bad Road Stalls Projects, Urges Government Intervention

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian artist, Burna Boy, has taken decisive steps towards transforming his ancestral community, Ogbogolo in Ahoada West Local Government Area, following shocking discoveries about the area’s poor infrastructure.

The move comes after social commentator VeryDarkMan was sent to inspect the community on behalf of the singer. His mission was to assess the feasibility of proposed humanitarian projects, including the construction of a school and a health centre.

However, the inspection revealed a major challenge: the complete absence of a motorable road leading into the community. The only access route was described as a narrow bush path, making transportation of materials nearly impossible.

According to VeryDarkMan, road construction must come first before any meaningful development can take place.

“Before anything is built, the community must have a proper road. How will we bring in materials if there is no access?” he reportedly stated.

 

Determined to see things for himself, Burna Boy visited the community on March 17, 2026. The trip proved difficult, as heavy rainfall had turned the already bad road into thick mud. Vehicles in his convoy became stuck, forcing the singer, his team, and security personnel to disembark and physically push the SUVs through the muddy terrain.

Ogbogolo holds historical significance as one of the earliest communities where crude oil was discovered in Nigeria. Despite this, residents continue to grapple with underdevelopment and lack of basic infrastructure.

Following the visit, Burna Boy took his concerns to the Rivers State Government, meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara to seek urgent intervention on the road project. He emphasised that while he is ready to commit substantial personal funds towards building a school, health facilities, and other life-changing projects, he cannot channel all resources into road construction alone.

In a further step, the artist also visited the Niger Delta Development Commission headquarters in Port Harcourt, calling for strategic collaboration to address infrastructure deficits in the region.

During the meeting, NDDC Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s willingness to partner with the singer. He described Burna Boy as a global ambassador for the Niger Delta and commended his commitment to community development.

Burna Boy stressed that meaningful and sustainable development in Ahoada requires joint efforts between private initiatives and government institutions. His intervention, which could run into billions of naira, is aimed at bringing long-overdue progress to his people.

The initiative has sparked optimism among residents and observers, as what began as a simple inspection has now evolved into a broader push for infrastructure and social development.

If successful, the collaboration between Burna Boy, the Rivers State Government, and the NDDC could mark a turning point for Ogbogolo and surrounding communities, ensuring they finally benefit from the dividends of democracy.
