Spain Crowned World Champions After Dramatic Extra-Time Victory Over Argentina

Spain are once again world champions after defeating Argentina 1 – 0 in a dramatic FIFA World Cup final that was decided in extra time.

The final remained goalless after 90 minutes, with both sides battling intensely for control of the match. Spain created several promising opportunities, while Argentina defended with determination as the tension continued to build inside the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

The contest took another dramatic turn when Argentina were reduced to 10 players after a red card. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Argentina continued to fight and remained a threat as Spain searched for the breakthrough.

That breakthrough finally arrived in the 106th minute.

Spain produced a moment of individual intelligence and attacking quality to unlock the Argentine defence. William played a crucial role in the build-up, cleverly nodding the ball into the path of Ferran Torres. The Spanish forward reacted quickly, took advantage of the opening and finished the move to give Spain a 1 – 0 lead.

The goal sparked enormous celebrations among the Spanish players and supporters. Argentina pushed forward in search of an equaliser during the remaining minutes, but Spain defended their advantage and held on until the final whistle.

The victory gives Spain another historic World Cup triumph and adds to the country's rich international football legacy. Sixteen years after lifting the trophy in 2010, Spain have once again reached the summit of world football.

For Argentina, the defeat brought heartbreak after a campaign that had taken the defending champions all the way back to the final. Their hopes of retaining the World Cup ended in a fiercely contested match in which a red card and Spain's extra-time quality ultimately proved decisive.

The final also attracted significant global attention beyond the football itself. U.S. President Donald Trump attended the match and appeared alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the post-match trophy presentation, adding a major political and sporting presence to the historic occasion.

Spain's triumph was built on patience, discipline and resilience. After 120 minutes of intense football, it was a perfectly timed attacking move — beginning with William's clever headed pass and ending with Ferran Torres' decisive finish — that delivered the world title.

Spain are once again world champions.

Goal: Ferran Torres, 106th minute
Key moment: William's headed pass created the opening for the winning goal
