SUPPORTING BOLA AHMED TINUBU, PETER OBI, ATIKU ABUBAKAR, OR OMOYELE SOWORE: DEMOCRACY MEANS FREEDOM OF CHOICE, NOT BULLYING
In any true democracy, every citizen has the right to support any candidate of their choice. That is the foundation of democratic freedom. Your vote is your voice, and no one should be intimidated, mocked, or pressured for how they choose to use it.
People support candidates for different reasons. Some believe in their vision. Others feel they may benefit from their policies. Whatever the reason, it is a personal decision and it should be respected.
No tribe, group, or individual has the right to decide for others how they should vote. Democracy is about freedom of choice. What anyone can do is present their candidate, explain their ideas, and allow people to decide for themselves.
There is no justification for attacking or ridiculing others simply because they support a different candidate. Political support is not a crime. It is a right.
Constructive criticism is important in any society, but it should focus on policies, performance, and leadership, not on individuals exercising their democratic rights. Instead of trying to force opinions, people should focus on showing why their preferred candidate deserves support.
We must also be careful with how narratives are shaped. Words can be used to damage one candidate while promoting another through different ideas. Citizens should stay informed and think independently.
It is also important to remember that no candidate is perfect. Many of those contesting today have held positions of power for years in different roles. Yet the country is still developing. This means every candidate represents both a risk and a possibility.
We are also seeing many individuals preparing for the 2027 elections, including some who have been accused of mismanaging public funds or have had cases with agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission. Some matters are still in court, while others remain unresolved due to political protection or influence. In some situations, concerns are dismissed as political targeting, which makes it harder for citizens to separate truth from perception.
This is why accountability is important. Leadership positions from president to governors, senators, representatives, and local government leaders should be based on performance and integrity. Those who are not delivering should be voted out, while those with clear plans and credibility should be considered.
Looking back, political alliances and narratives often change. When Bola Ahmed Tinubu aligned with Muhammadu Buhari, reactions were shaped by strong sentiments. Today, we also see shifts in alliances, including Peter Obi engaging across political lines.
This shows that politics is dynamic and narratives can evolve. That is why it is important not to be influenced by division, pressure, or personal interests.
Everyone has the right to support any candidate and to promote their choice peacefully. However, forcing, bullying, insulting, intimidating, or using power to influence citizens must be discouraged in all forms.
Let us move away from division and hostility. Respect choices. Promote ideas. Encourage informed decisions.
At the end of the day, every citizen has one vote and that vote belongs to them alone.
Disclaimer: This message does not support any particular candidate. It is a reminder that democracy means freedom to choose without bullying or pressure.
