Late Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Sade, the iconic band fronted by Nigerian British singer Sade Adu, are set to be inducted into the 2026 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in a historic recognition of their global musical influence.
Fela Kuti’s latest honour comes months after the late Afrobeat pioneer became the first African musician to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, nearly 30 years after his death. The posthumous recognition further underscores his enduring legacy as a revolutionary musician, cultural activist and creator of Afrobeat.
Sade, known for her smooth fusion of soul, jazz and soft rock, also earns a place among music’s most influential figures. With timeless records and a distinctive sound, the band’s induction highlights the lasting global impact of Nigerian rooted artistry.
Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are selected by a group of around 40 industry professionals, including previous inductees, academics and journalists with expertise in music.
The induction ceremony will take place on 14 November at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, where both icons will be honoured for their groundbreaking contributions to global music.
